The Course

First Impressions

What did the course look like when you first saw it?

When Ioan first saw the course, it looked really difficult and a bit scary. However, once he was on the water with Ingela, it felt much easier than he had anticipated. He was quite relieved about that!

Challenging Sections

Was there a section that looked really tricky? What made it hard?

Gates 4 through to 8 were the hardest part by far. Ioan had to perform many sweeps in various places, which became quite confusing. He found himself second-guessing his moves, which made it even more challenging!

Describing the Water

How would you describe the water to someone who wasn't there?

The water was really slow-moving, which might sound easy, but it required a lot of mental and physical strength. Ioan had to work hard just to make progress. By the end of the day, his arms were aching, but Ingela helped him push through instead of giving up.

Course Layout

Was it a well-set course? What made it good or not?

Overall, Ioan found the course to be excellent. It was very challenging but also incredibly fun. Ingela made everything easier by showing him different ways to tackle each section. He felt like he learned so much over the weekend, which was brilliant!

The Organisers

Event Organisation

Did the event feel well run? What gave you that impression?

The event felt very well organised. All the staff were kind and helpful to everyone. You could tell they genuinely cared about making it a good day, not just going through the motions.

Highlights of the Organisation

Was there anything they did really well?

They managed the timing exceptionally well. Timing can often be stressful at races, but they handled it smoothly. Even when a random 6 seconds of penalties appeared, they resolved it with a smile.

My Race

Pre-Race Feelings

How were you feeling before your run?

Before the race, Ioan felt a mix of nerves and excitement. It was like having butterflies in his stomach.

The Run Experience

Describe your run — what happened from start to finish?

Ioan's run started well. When he reached the bottom, he was confident he had gone clean the whole way down. Unfortunately, he later discovered he had touched one gate at the end, which was disappointing because it was so close to being perfect!

Personal Performance

What went really well for you?

Aside from that one touch, Ioan felt he performed reasonably well. He was pleased with how everything went. One gate was annoying, but it wasn't the end of the world.

Post-Race Reflections

How did you feel after your run? What was your result?

After the run, Ioan felt great. He knew it had been a fast run. His times were good, and he could see he had improved, which made him very happy. All the training had been worth it!

The Area

Venue Location

Where was the venue and what was it like to get there?

Ioan and his team travelled the night before and camped in the car park, which was quite fun. They were surprised to find a height barrier at the gate. Ioan had to climb over the fence to help guide the car under it, which was a bit of an adventure before they even unpacked!

Venue Atmosphere

What was the venue itself like?

The venue was a lovely enclosed space that felt quite cosy. It had a brilliant atmosphere that added to the experience.

Recommendations for Paddlers

Would you recommend this venue to other paddlers? Why?

Absolutely! It was 100% worth the trip. The water was fantastic. Ioan would definitely return without even thinking twice about it!

Overall Experience

Best Moment

What was the best moment of the whole day?

The biggest highlight for Ioan was definitely winning J14, which was a massive surprise. He truly did not expect that at all!

Overall Enjoyment

What did you enjoy most overall?

Winning J14 on both days was incredible. However, it wasn't just about the racing. It was also lovely to spend time with friends and catch up after the winter. Ioan had missed seeing everyone and racing.

Future Participation

Would you go to this event again? Tell us why!

Yes, Ioan would 100% go back. The Stone Slalom is a brilliant course that is challenging yet achievable with effort. The friendly atmosphere made it even better. It was a fantastic start to the season!
