Despite a very cold start, Sunday’s paddle on the River Usk with North Avon Canoe Club turned out to be a brilliant day on the water.
The winter temperatures did put a few paddlers off, which was completely understandable, but those who did brave the cold were rewarded with a fantastic session. Rowan, Louis, Fran, Ewen and Tavi had a great time surfing and enjoying the river alongside Martin, Sam and Nigel from NACC.
A big thank you to Martin and Sam, who were using the day as part of their preparation for their Whitewater Leadership assessments. It was great to paddle alongside you both, and we wish you the very best of luck with your upcoming assessments.

About the Paddle on the River Usk
The paddle took place on Sunday, 25th January as a joint white water river trip with North Avon Canoe Club. The section of the River Usk chosen was graded 2 to 3, making it suitable for intermediate paddlers. This included those who have paddled up to 6c at CIWW.
Coaching support was provided by Tavi and Andrew from Seren Dŵr, alongside experienced coaches from North Avon Canoe Club.
We met at 9.30am at the end location to organise the shuttle, with everyone off the river by around 2pm. For families and siblings who were not paddling, alternative nearby activities were suggested so everyone could still enjoy the day.
