One of those paddlers you just enjoy watching
At just 17 years old, Seren Dŵr paddler Math Cradock is already making waves on the international freestyle kayaking stage. For the second year running, Math has secured his place on Team GB, cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in British Freestyle. Math is one of those paddlers you don’t need to explain too much. You watch him on the water, and it just makes sense.
There’s a calmness to how he paddles. Everything looks smooth, controlled, and thought through. And then you remember he’s only 17 and already on Team GB for the second year running.
His journey is a powerful reminder of what dedication, community support, and a love for the sport can achieve and an inspiration for paddlers coming through the ranks.

From Local Waters to the World Stage
Math currently competes in Junior Men’s K1 Freestyle (K1JM) and is ranked UK Number 1 in his category. His performances over the past season have been nothing short of outstanding, including a dominant win at the Team GB selection event, a score that would have placed him 4th in the Senior Men’s category.
Highlights from the 2025 season include:
2nd place at the GB Championships
2nd overall in the European Cup Series
1st place at the Galway Festival in Ireland
2nd place at the Natural Games
A top-10 finish at the World Championships (with later rounds sadly cancelled due to low water levels)
What stands out isn’t just that he’s winning, it’s how close he already is to senior level.

Math Cradock’s Freestyle Journey on the GB Freestyle Team
Being selected for the GB Freestyle Team for a second consecutive year is a huge milestone in Math Cradock’s freestyle journey, especially as 2026 will be his final season as a junior athlete. He will be representing Great Britain across Europe at major events, including the European Championships, World Cup events, and international festivals.
There’s a natural shift happening now.
It’s not just about performing well as a junior anymore; it’s about preparing for that next step into the senior team. And based on where he is now, that step doesn’t feel far away.

More than just results
One of the things that really stands out about Math is what he does away from competition.
Alongside his own training, he gives a lot of time back to the sport:
Volunteers at GB Freestyle Academy Camps
Supports the GB Youth Freestyle Series
Helps coach and inspire younger paddlers at Seren Dŵr, Cardiff Canoe Club, and the CIWW freestyle hub
Math has already completed his Core Coach qualification and is working towards becoming a qualified Freestyle Coach, It shows a real commitment, not just to improving himself, but to helping others develop too.

The Reality of Competing at the Top
Freestyle kayaking at an international level comes with high costs, from travel and entry fees to specialist equipment and physio support. Like many young athletes, much of Math’s journey is self-funded, with family and community support playing a crucial role.
Previous grant funding enabled him to invest in essential equipment, physical training and fund race travel. With continued support from his family and coaches, Ottilie Robinson-Shaw and Dennis Newton, Math can focus on what matters most: training hard, staying healthy, and proudly representing Team GB with pride.

An Inspiration for Young Paddlers
Math Cradock’s story is proof that with commitment, resilience, and support from clubs like Seren Dŵr, young paddlers can progress from local sessions to the world stage.
Consistent training. Support from a good club environment. Getting involved in the wider paddling community. And building experience step by step.

We’re incredibly proud to have Math as part of the Seren Dŵr family and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
